Same memory, two doors. Recall asks your mind to generate the past from nothing; recognition only asks it to verify what's put in front of it. Most of what you "forgot" at door one was still in there — it needed the easier door.
Worth building around: when you want someone's judgment, hand them options to recognize. Make them generate from blank only when generating is the skill being trained.
